How the estimate is calculated
Most F&I add-on refunds are prorated: the share of the contract term still remaining when you cancel, multiplied by what you paid, minus any cancellation fee and the value of any claim already paid. Some contracts prorate by unused mileage instead of time, and a few older agreements use the Rule of 78s, which returns less in the later part of the term. Several states cap cancellation fees (for example California limits them) or bar them outright. This calculator uses the straight pro-rata-by-time method as a ballpark.
Calculator FAQs
Is this extended warranty refund calculator free?
Yes. The estimate is completely free, runs in your browser, and requires no signup or card. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere.
How accurate is the estimate?
It uses the standard pro-rata method (unused months ÷ total months × what you paid, minus any cancellation fee). Your actual refund depends on your contract and state law — some contracts prorate by mileage instead of time or use the Rule of 78s, and several states cap or bar cancellation fees. Treat this as a ballpark and confirm against your service contract.
Does cancelling my extended warranty affect my loan?
If the add-on was financed, the refund is often applied to your loan balance rather than paid to you directly while the loan is open. Once the loan is paid off, the refund can generally be issued to you. Your lender and contract terms control where the money goes.
When would I actually pay anything?
Only if you choose to generate a formal cancellation letter to request the refund — and that decision comes after you see your free estimate. The calculator itself never charges you.
This calculator provides a general estimate, not legal or financial advice, and does not guarantee a refund or any amount. Refund eligibility and the exact calculation depend on your contract and your state. Last reviewed: June 2026.
